BUTTERWORTH: An 18-year-old passenger died after the car he was travelling in crashed into the divider at the Sungai Dua toll plaza on Friday morning.
A spokesman for the State Fire and Rescue Department said the car lost control, skidded while heading southbound, and collided with the divider.
“The department received a distress call from the public regarding the accident at around 9.44am,” said the spokesman.
He said that upon the firemen’s arrival, two other victims — the driver and another passenger, aged 22 and 18, respectively — had already been rescued by members of the public. However, the deceased was trapped in the rear passenger area.
“The deceased was successfully extricated and later confirmed dead by medical personnel,” he added.
The victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action.

Wong also shared a photo of the care package which included a variety of fruits and a Premium Seafood Crab Meat Fish Maw Soup (Real Crab Meat).
The 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, scheduled for Dec 8 to Dec 9 in Malaysia, has been postponed after Wong tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
Earlier Wednesday, Anwar, while presenting the second reading of the Supply Bill 2025 in Dewan Negara, said the signing of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) agreement, originally scheduled for Dec 9, has been postponed to January due to Wong’s Covid-19 diagnosis. – Bernama
