The world has been confused about the shape of the Earth for a long time now. Some say it is spherical while some say it is flat…

Before I get to the main point of this article, let’s have a look at the two other considerable ideas on the shape of the Earth. I also urge you to read till the very end to avoid any unwanted confusion.

Flat Earth

The Earth’s shape according to some individuals is flat and here are some arguments on why they think so.

1. Horizon Appears Flat: Flat Earthers often argue that when you look at the horizon, it seems flat, without any noticeable curvature. They claim that if the Earth were truly a sphere, there should be a visible curve at a certain distance.
2. Water’s Surface Level: Flat Earthers argue that bodies of water, such as oceans and seas, appear to have a level surface. According to them, this supports the idea of a flat Earth, as they believe water always finds its level.
3. Gravity as Density: Some flat Earthers reject the conventional explanation of gravity. Instead, they propose that objects fall due to differences in density, asserting that more massive objects fall through less dense ones.
4. Lack of Perceptible Spin: Flat Earthers often question why we don’t feel the Earth’s supposed rotation. They argue that if the Earth were spinning at a considerable speed, we should experience noticeable effects like constant wind.
5. Flight Paths and Navigation: Some flat Earthers question the flight paths of airplanes, suggesting that they would need to constantly adjust their altitude if the Earth were curved. They may also challenge certain long-haul flight paths, arguing that they take routes that don’t make sense on a globe.

At some point when looking at this from a basic and non-educated perspective, they may look a little bit right, but these are not true. They are just made based on simple thoughts and as the case may be, deciding the shape of the Earth is not just about basic and simple thoughts.

Round/Spherical Earth

The Earth’s roundness is supported by a vast body of scientific evidence from various fields. I believe these are key points used by individuals who ultimately believe that the Earth is round:

1. Satellite Imagery: Satellites orbiting the Earth capture images that clearly show its spherical shape. These images, freely available to the public, provide a direct visual confirmation of the Earth as a globe.
2. Astronomical Observations: Astronomical phenomena, such as lunar eclipses and the changing positions of celestial bodies in the night sky as one travels across the globe, are consistent with a spherical Earth. The way constellations change as one moves north or south supports the idea of a curved surface.
3. Gravity: Gravity, as a force pulling objects toward the center of mass, is consistent with a spherical Earth. The distribution of gravitational forces around the planet corresponds to the expected pattern for a globe, with stronger gravity at the poles and weaker at the equator.
4. Circumnavigation: The ability to circumnavigate the Earth by traveling in a straight line eventually brings travelers back to their starting point. This phenomenon aligns with the concept of a spherical Earth, as one can continuously travel in one direction and return to the original location.
5. Ship Horizon Observation: When a ship sails away from an observer, it gradually disappears bottom-first, hull sinking below the horizon. This phenomenon is explained by the curvature of the Earth’s surface and is consistent with a spherical shape.
6. Gravity’s Effect on Water: Gravity causes bodies of water, such as oceans, to conform to the shape of the Earth. This effect is seen in the natural curvature of large bodies of water and the tides.
7. Airplane Flight Paths: Airplane flight paths, especially long-haul flights, are planned considering the Earth’s curvature. The most efficient routes follow great-circle paths, which are shorter on a globe but appear curved on flat maps.
8. Space Exploration: Astronauts and space probes provide direct observations of the Earth from space, confirming its spherical shape. Earthrise images from the Moon and live feeds from the International Space Station (ISS) offer continuous visual evidence.

These points are very good, backed up with scientific proof, and have been well thought out. It’s not a bad way of representing the shape of the Earth.

BUT NOW, with the new knowledge I’m about to bring you, your perception about everything will change {Hopefully I guess, some people are quite hard to convince 😅}

To my understanding and critically thought intellect,

The shape of the Earth is not a constant.

Ok… Proof time

To prove this, I would like to draw your attention to historical timelines. In the past before the advent of modernized technology, space travel and improved telescopes and equipment, the Earth was believed to be flat. The people who lived in these times/ages, had no choice but to believe {Except those who could time travel to read this article 😂}

They believed this due to a form of dogma that existed during those ages causing knowledge to be limited to society. But due to growth, some unfortunate wars {both known and unknown}, and advancements, Knowledge began to spread into society.

And before they knew it…
Space travel began and images of the Earth started to get published and spread. That’s how the world migrated from flat to round.

Now, my point

Due to advancements in technology and knowledge over time, the Earth’s shape can’t be fully determined because the world is still in its formation period and once civilizations start to grow knowledgeable feats, the Earth might be given a new shape…

So in conclusion, the Earth is a wonderful place… Though with the current technological and knowledge limitations, the Earth’s shape can be concluded to be round 😁…

Yeah yeah, over the coming decades or centuries, the civilizations will come up with a more defined and proven shape of the Earth which ultimately proves my theory 😂
